2000, 2400 if you really like it. My rule is 60%...anybody who offers me over 60% of my asking price can be considered a serious buyer. 50% or under I usually don't respond to.

That’s a good rule if the price isn’t a crack price. Still, in all, with this car, we’re not talking about very much money.

Totally, I tend to price my cars conservatively anyway.

Nope. Found it yesterday, been texting all day today with Dude’s wife, who has been sending the pictures, whilst Dude is at work. Unless there is massive rust underneath that I can’t see, I’m going to buy it. Just need to agree upon a price. I am hoping to wind up closer to $2k. I notice that the car is equipped with A/C, so I’ll be able to retrofit that as well. Then, later, do a 4.8 or a 5.3 swap for more HP and MPGs. And being a ‘73, no darned smog test.

that sounds like a great plan...... the Dude’s wife is probably the “motivation” just remember to use the words “cash in hand” after you make your “solid” offer.

Yeah. They’re nice enough and I believe in karma. I’m not trying to wring them out, but this is a four-door and shouldn’t command the price of a two-door. Then again, it’s a pretty good specimen and it runs and drives and it has four good tires on it. And we are not talking about an expensive or complicated or exotic car.

Looks pretty clean. I’d offer $2100 or so.

Does the A/C work?

I'll start at $1800 and meet him halfway, that’ll be $2500. Don’t know about the ac, just glad it’s so equipped.

that is a bit of a let down. BUT if that is what you are trying to get rounded up. you could start rounding up bits to build the car how you want it. that way you are looking at buying a shell, and the condition of engine trans mean nothing to you.

inline 6, and three speeds are not that hard to put your hands on these days. and those 77 front ends SHOULD bolt up to an older car......

Kinja'd!!!1

Yes, there are others. I really want four doors and a V-8/auto. I can buy one on Ebay and get it shipped for like $1300. I’m really after a dad car, family sedan that will drift and or devour an interstate on ramp.

Kinja'd!!! Die-Trying > Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo

Kinja'd!!!0

that shouldnt be too hard to round up. it also depends on how finished it needs to be.

you can build all kinds of FUN stuff with slightly lower standards... safety not being one of them.

but yeah, what youre hunting is definitely reasonable. got a cutoff year??

I’ve always liked Novas. I don’t want a ‘68-69 (too iconic), nor ‘62-64 (too tiny), nor ‘75 or later (needs smog in Cali.) So ‘66-67 or ‘72-74. I just made an offer on one in Kansas...

what is the story on kansas??

Kinja'd!!! Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo > Die-Trying
06/06/2016 at 17:26

Kinja'd!!!1

The one in Kansas is a ‘66 with a straight-six and manual transmission. There are fun mods for those sixes and I bet I can find a five-speed transmission for it. Headers, dual exhaust...

Kinja'd!!! Die-Trying > Rusty Vandura - www.tinyurl.com/keepoppo

Kinja'd!!!0

there is a whole lot that can be done for those inline 6. like a 4 barrel, or 2 2barrel intake, the headers, put an hei on it, and valvesprings off of a v8. and one of those 5 speeds out of an old camaro, or an s10 with the 4.3...

...sounds like you’ve been thinking about it for a while

I’ve been thinking about this for 30 years. And that is not an exaggeration. It might even be a bit conservative.

wow, that is quite some time.... i have some long term projects myself... i have been stacking parts on one of them for 12 or 13 years. IT is getting close. i have been working under the motivation that ANY progress, IS progress.

when i dont have parts to work with, i go about earning the money for them, and when i have parts i go about fitting them, or measuring and planning for what i need to get next. i keep one of those real small memo pads with whats what, and what it come off of, so that if/when i need to replace something its not a big hassle.

i keep telling folks that if i keep stacking the parts closer together, eventually i’ll have a car.

you dont have to make HUGE progress all at once,

keep us posted on kansas too.
